GRUPOS REDUCIDOS PARA MÁXIMO APRENDIZAJE
En Big Apple Badajoz trabajamos con grupos pequeños de alumnos, con práctica del idioma desde el primer momento. Entendemos el acto de comunicación como algo bidireccional y queremos ir mucho más allá de lo que pueden ofrecer los centros de enseñanza.
Cada alumno o alumna pertenecerá a un grupo de edad similar, en el que podrá aportar su nivel de experiencia y su visión de las cosas con compañeros de una vivencia similar, facilitando la fluidez de la comunicación y la integración de lo aprendido de forma natural.
NUESTROS PROFESORES
Alicia Bumb
My name is Alicia Bumb. I was born and raised in the United States. All my former and current students know that I am proudly from North Dakota. I have been in Badajoz since 1999 and am happy to call it home along with my husband and daughter.
However, I take every chance to spend time in the US with my family. My love of languages dates back to my teens. I spent a year of high school in Málaga as an exchange student in 1990-1991 and then another year of university studying at St. Louis University in Madrid in ’93-’94. My university studies included Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, later completing TEFL training in Madrid in the 90s when I decided to return to Spain.
I graduated cum laude with a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1996. I’ve worked as an EFL teacher since the 90’s in Madrid and subsequently in Badajoz.
After gaining valuable work experience in various academies and teaching private lessons, I decided to join forces with Jorge del Álamo in 2008. We are pleased to have taught hundreds of children and adults over the years, leading many to Cambridge certificates ranging from Young Learners up through C2.
I feel comfortable teaching both the very young as well as the most advanced students. I try to make the language learning experience dynamic and fun yet exam focused, as this is the aim of the majority of our students in the long-term. Further professional areas include being an official Speaking Examiner with Cambridge for the past 15 years, giving me special insight into the speaking paper of all levels of Cambridge exams. I also collaborate with Oxford University Press and MacMillan Education as a cultural presenter in schools around Extremadura.
Jorge del Álamo
Nacido en Badajoz, desde muy joven me sentí atraído hacia el aprendizaje de otra lengua pues me parecía casi mágico el poder ver películas en versión original y poder leer libros en inglés.
He participado en programas de cursos en el extranjero como alumno cuando tenía entre 15 y 17 año y posteriormente estuve siete veranos trabajando como monitor de estos programas en varios destinos como Brighton, Dublín, Malta, Estados Unidos etc. Obtuve el título de Maestro Especialidad en Lengua Extranjera con mención especial al mejor expediente como alumno distinguido.
Urška
Hi! My name is Urška and I’m so excited of becoming a new member of this wonderful Big Apple school family! I grew up in the second biggest Slovenian town called Maribor and before coming to Badajoz, I lived in Chester (England) and Valencia. As a young girl I used to watch Mexican soap operas as well as American cartoons, which consequently led to my lifelong affair with English and Spanish.
This passion with learning both languages slowly translated into the desire of teaching them, so that’s why I got a Master’s degree in English and Spanish Philology!
Becoming a teacher for me has been a dream come true, as not only you get to be creative and pass on your knowledge, but you also get to learn a lot from your students. I’m extremely lucky as I got to work with a variety of students, ranging from nursery kids, young learners, teenagers to adults. Apart from learning new languages, I’m really fond of dancing, doing yoga, listening to my Spotify playlists, travelling, watch Netflix and, of course, Spanish cuisine.
I’m really looking forward to meeting you and wishing you a great school year!
